IBF's proposed 5 x 7 scoring system has gained widespread support from the Asian Badminton Confederation at its Annual General Meeting in Jakarta.
The experimental scoring system, to be used at the forthcoming World Junior Championships in Guangzhou, was welcomed by ABC President Korn Dabbaransi, who suggested that changing the scoring system was one of the ways to improve the performance of badminton in the world, and attract and retain sponsors and TV coverage.
Neil Cameron, IBF Chief Executive, agreed that changes in the presentation of the game are required if the sport is to become more attractive to sponsors and TV audiences.
"We made a number of innovations during the Sydney Olympics by playing music between rallies and involving the spectators in cheering on the players.
"Some of the players may not feel comfortable, but we’re not thinking here about the importance of the players, rather the importance of the game." |
