Denmark's Peter Gade has been knocked off his world number one perch just one week after reclaiming the spot.
Teenager Taufik Hidayat re-takes the coveted position, thanks to an impressive win in the recently concluded 5* Asian Badminton Championships where he beat teammate Rony Agustinus.
Hidayat enjoyed the number one spot earlier this year, which enabled him to be the top seed at the Sydney Olympic Games. With no Grand Prix events left this season and the qualifying date for February's World Grand Prix Finals set at 14 December, Hidayat stands in good stead to be tournament favourite for IBF's premier prize money event.
Asian Champs runner up Rony Agustinus enjoys a rapid climb up the rankings this week as well, leaping 74 places into the top 50 at number 42.
Ronald Susilo's ABC quarter-finals place ensured him of rise up the ranks as well - the young Singaporean moves up 32 places to the number 36 position.
No major movements at the top of the women's singles rankings this week, with the top six spots still dominated by the Chinese, separated by Camilla Martin in second place.
Indonesia's Ellen Angelina has increased her standing eight places this week to number 19 after her runner-up spot in the ABC, while champion Xie Xingfang has leapt 53 places this week to find herself at number 37.
Japan's Fumi Iwakaki - a virtual unknown before reaching the quarter finals at the ABC in Jakarta - bursts into the top 100, increasing 79 places to number 83.
Choong Tan Fook and Lee Wan Wah are up three places to number three in this week's rankings, after reaching the final in Jakarta where they lost to past and present Olympic champions, Rexy Mainaky and Tony Gunawan.
Newly crowned Asian Champions Yim Kyung Jin and Lee Hyo Jung of Korea increase their standing in the women's doubles list by three places to number seven- one of the only major movements in this list this week - while Indonesia's Wahyu Agung and Emma Ermawati improve their position by 12 places to number 19 in a largely unchanged mixed doubles ranking, thanks to their second place spot on home soil in the ABC last week. |
