Taufik Hidayat has hinted that he may turn down his place in the national squad, in response to the Indonesian Badminton Association's (PBSI) failure to include his coach, Mulyo Handoyo, at the Indonesian Badminton Centre.
The World number four told The Jakarta Post that if PBSI doesn't call Handoyo back, there was a chance that he would also decline to join the national squad.
PBSI named Agus Dwi Santoso as its men's singles coach - previously Santoso and Handoyo had held the role between them. The 19-year-old Hidayat said: "He [Handoyo] is the perfect coach for me. If he's not at the centre, how about my preparations for the All England and other tournaments in the future?"
In further shake-ups, PBSI has reduced the number of senior players at the Centre from 56 to only 39, and also invited 21 youngster to join, including World Junior Championships finalist Sony Dwi Kuncoro.;;PBSI concede in Taufik coach row;2;IBF; ; ;The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) has agreed to hire Taufik Hidayat’s coach, Mulyo Handoyo, on a short-term basis in order to prepare the world number four player for the impending All Englandchampionships.;The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) has agreed to hire Taufik Hidayat’s coach, Mulyo Handoyo, on a short-term basis in order to prepare the world number four player for the impending All Englandchampionships.
Speaking to reporters at the Indonesian Badminton Centre in East Jakarta, PBSI chairman Subagyo Hadisiswoyo said that as part of their effort to retain Indonesia’s domination in badminton, they would have no problem in hiring Handoyo on a short-term contract for the All England only.
He also stated that the All Englandwas just an intermediary target for the Indonesian shuttlers, as PBSI had decided to concentrate mainly on the World Championships and Sudirman Cup in Seville, Spain later this year.
Hidayat had previously said that he would consider quitting the national squad if PBSI did not back down from their decision not to rehire Handoyo, instead favouring Agus Dwi Santoso as sole men’s singles coach.
Santoso admitted it would take time to get to know 19-year-old Hidayat’s personality, but said he was ready to help him: "I will help Taufik reach his target, as long as he still has the motivation to do so.
