Turnamen Final Grand Prix (GP) Bulu Tangkis tahun 2000 yang berulang kali diundur dipastikan akan digelar di Bandar Seri Begawan Brunei Darussalam 8-12 Agustus 2001. Turnamen penutup seri GP itu hanya diikuti pemain sampai peringkat 16 (tunggal) dan delapan besar (ganda) dunia itu berhadiah total 250.000 dollar AS.Federasi Bulu Tangkis Internasional (IBF) berharap agar pemain tunggal peringkat dua dunia Taufik Hidayat dapat mengikuti turnamen Final Grand Prix. Saat hal tersebut dikonfirmasikan, Sekretaris Jenderal PB PBSI Leo Ch Wiranta mengingatkan, Taufik masih terikat sanksi tidak boleh terjun di Final Grand Prix
