JVC Asia Pte Ltd today announced its arrangement with rising Indonesian badminton star, Taufik Hidayat. The deal, brokered by International Management Group, includes the right for JVC to use Taufik's images for its advertising and promotional purposes in Asia. This arrangement continues on JVC's successful relationship with the sport of Badminton in Asia as a promotional vehicle for its products. Taufik was chosen by JVC as he embodies the qualities of JVC and fits the image of JVC's Audio/Video market profile. Taufik Hidayat is widely seen as one of badminton's rising stars. At only 19 years of age, he has already won two major IBF events, last year's Indonesiaand the 1998 Bruneias well as the 1999 SEA Games Gold Medal. Taufik has also appeared in the finals of the All England twice and the Singapore Playing for the Indonesian National team, Taufik has been a key player in victories at the 1999 SEA Games (Gold Medal), the 1999 JVC Asia Cup (Champions), the 1999 Sudirman Cup (Semi Finalists) and most recently at the 2000 Thomas Cup Finals (Champions). For the Indonesian Team, Taufik has only lost once in a total of 16 matches.
In the year 2000, JVC will begin to push the sales of its products more aggressively in Indonesia. JVC already has offices and factories all across Asia and the rest of the world. JVC, no stranger to the sport of Badminton, has already been working with IMG to develop the sport in Asia through its support of the JVC Asian Badminton Championships since 1997. Through their involvement, IMG together with the Asian Badminton Confederation have been able to make the JVC ABC one of the largest events in the world. In 1996 and 1997, JVC also sponsored the JVC Vietnamand in 1999, the JVC Asia Cup. JVC has seen value in supporting the sport of Badminton as it is one of Asia's top performance sports and receives wide television coverage throughout the region.
Taufik's general appeal throughout Indonesia and the Badminton world will enable JVC to connect with its target market-particularly Audio/Visual product users aged between 15 - 30-as he is young, energetic and successful. JVC will support Taufik in his career and will look at other ways to work with the PBSI and IMG to develop the game of Badminton in Indonesia.
