Jaime Llanes led the siege of the local bets in the one-day qualifier of the JVC Asian Badminton Championships Tuesday, fashioning out a 15-12, 15-8 victory over Eskandari Jalal of Iran and staying in the hunt for berth in the main draw of the $150,000 event which fires off today (Wednesday) at the Philsports Arena.

The Asian IBF results from Malaysia, Indonesia Brunei have now been tabulated and the participant field is set for the 2001 JVC Asian Badminton Championships in Manila this week. World and Asian top ten ranked players have secured their place among the top seeds at the event and have qualified to win the USD 1,000 prize from the JVC Asian Rankings. In the Men's and Ladies' Doubles fields, #1 world ranked pairs have qualified for Asia's #1 seed and will fight to prove themselves worthy this week.

Finally after more than 30 years, the shuttlecock is back in our court! From August 21 - 26, the Philippines will host the 2001 JVC Asian Badminton Championships at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City. This will only be 2nd time the Philippines will play host, the first being in 1969, to this annual tournament which brings together the best badminton players in Asia.
