Hopes of a home victory were short-lived on the penultimate day of the US$150,000 (Bt6.5 million) Asian Badminton Championships when three Thai pairs went down, with mixed doubles pair Khunakorn Suddhisodhi and Saralee Thungthongkham losing the final to the world and Sydney Olympics champions from China.

Thailand's chances of clinching the mixed doubles crown at the JVC Asian Badminton Championships were given a huge boost yesterday at Nimibutr Gymnasium when Asian Games silver medallists Khunakorn Sudhisodhi and Saralee Thungthongkam disposed of Indonesians Tri Kusharjanto and Emma Ermawati in the semi-finals to give the Kingdom their first place in the finals.

Thailand's long-time dream of winning a singles crown in the US$150,000 JVC Asian Badminton Championships at the Nimibutr Gymnasium was dashed yesterday with the Polsana siblings, Boonsak and Salakjitr, the two best bets, suffering straight-game defeats at the hands of Hong Kong's Ng Wei and Wang Chen.

The Asian IBF results from Denmark have now been tabulated and the participant field is set for the 2002 JVC Asian Badminton Championships in Bangkok this week. World and Asian top ten ranked players have secured their place among the top seeds at the event and have qualified to win the USD 1,000 prize from the JVC Asian Rankings. In the Men’s Doubles and and Ladies’ Singles fields, #1 world ranked pkayers have qualified for Asia’s #1 seed and will fight to prove themselves worthy this week.

The JVC ABC 2002 will be held this year at the Nimibutr Gymnasium in the heart of Bangkok. This year’s event, the 22nd time that the JVC ABC has been held, will feature Asia’s top players fighting for USD 150,000 in prize money. Last week’s Asian Games Medallists, from China, Korea, Indonesia and Malaysia will be out in force.

Today it was announced that the 22nd Annual JVC Asian Badminton Championships will be held in Bangkok, Thailand from November 13 - 17. This year’s JVC Asian Badminton Championships (JVC ABC) marks the 22nd Anniversary of the event.
